Kali Majapahit Martial Arts, Since 1998.

In 1998, after more than 20 years of Martial Arts practice, Guro Fred Evrard founded his first Kali Majapahit academies in Polynesia, a group of islands in the middle of the pacific ocean. Back then, the academy was known as “Ni Tien” or the school of 2 skies, to reflect the martial arts and health pillars at the core of what was to become Kali Majapahit in 2009. Together with Guro Lila, his wife, they left their little paradise island to begin a 4-year journey around the world, training martial arts and studying traditional healing, meeting amazing people who contributed to enrich the KM curriculum. In 2006, they settled down in Singapore to open a new academy which was to become the headquarters for a network of academies around the world.

What’s in a name?

“Kali” is the name of their style’s main martial arts influence. Originally from the Philippines and sometimes known as Eskrima or Arnis, Kali is known for its efficiency and great work on coordination, using empty hands, knife, single or double sticks and kickboxing.
“Majapahit” refers to the influence of Southeast Asia on Kali Majapahit. The Majapahit Empire in the 13th century spread around most of today’s Southeast Asia, from Indonesia and Malaysia all the way to parts of the Philippines and Southern Thailand.

How is the Kali Majapahit approach different?

Kali Majapahit is the unified concept of Southeast Asian Martial Arts training, traditional healing and personal growth where the martial art is not just about self-defense. It is also about self development.
Unlike other martial arts schools, Kali Majapahit combines the art of healing one’s body and mind through its programs. The instructors themselves are dedicated professionals who live what they teach and who are committed to being part of each student’s development path.
