Developed by Grand Master Venancio “Anciong” Bacon in the 1940s, Balintawak Eskrima was named after the club’s original location at a small street in Cebu where it was founded.
Balintawak was created by GM Bacon to enhance and preserve the combative nature of Filipino Martial Arts, especially in close quarter combat.
GM Bobby Tabimina was introduced to Balintawak in 1967 and has been with the art ever since. Among his teachers are Balintawak masters Jose Villasin, Teofilo Velez, Timoteo Maranga, founder Anciong Bacon, and traditional master Ciriaco Cañete (Doce Pares).
Tabimina Balintawak (TB) is Master Tabimina’s own expression and methodology in the art of Balintawak.
Even though just a beginner in the art of TB, Guro Fred was much impressed by the fighting concept of TB, and the amazing teaching abilities of Master Tabimina. "It is always an honor to receive GM Tabimina’s valuable advices and training. He is an amazing instructor, and has deeply influenced my vision of Filipino Martial Arts" says our founder.
Kali Majapahit has no direct lineage with Balintawak, nevertheless, Guro Fred wanted to pay his respect to "Sir Bob” for the knowledge, energy and positivity his latest instructor has given him.
